Electronic Text Center
A project of the University of Virginia, the Electronic Text Center's holdings include web versions of approximately 51,000 on- and off-line humanities texts in twelve languages, with more than 350,000 related images.  1,600 of these e-books are also available in versions for Palm devices and the free Microsoft Reader including classic British and American fiction, major authors, children's literature, the Bible, Shakespeare, American history, African-American documents, and much more.

Google Book Search
Book Search works just like web search. Try a search on Google Book Search or on Google.com. When Google finds a book with content that contains a match for your search terms, Google will link to it in your search results.
If the book is out of copyright, or the publisher has given Google permission, you'll be able to see a preview of the book, and in some cases the entire text. If it's in the public domain, you're free to download a PDF copy.

DuPage Roots
This history of DuPage County and each of its municipalities, written in 1985, is available online on the DuPage County Historical Society's website. The Society is currently working on the next phase of its Website Project, which will include updating each of the histories in the book, adding municipalities that were not originally included, and integrating this material on the website

The Illinois Blue Books are excellent resources for unique historical articles about Illinois, biographies and portraits of legislators, and the history of state agencies and officers. Illinois Periodicals Online (IPO)  
A project of the Northern Illinois University Libraries, DeKalb, Illinois. To date, the IPO project has reached agreement with ten journals: Illinois Country Living, Illinois Heritage, Illinois History: A Magazine for Young People, Illinois History Teacher, Illinois Issues, Illinois Municipal Review, Illinois Parks & Recreation, Outdoor Illinois, Point of View, and Prairie Farmer. The digital imaging of these titles is an ongoing process. The goal is to scan a magazine's entire backrun up to the current time.

This site was developed by the ELA Area Public Library, in conjunction with the North Suburban Library System and the Lake Zurich and Hawthorn Woods Police Departments. It is designed to help individuals learn about Internet safety issues and concerns, as well as providing general information about using the Internet.

Google
This is a newer search engine that is very fast and gives good search results.  If you misspell a search word it will let you know.  It also has a "cache" selection that will highlight your search words on the page it connects you to.

Illinois CLICKS! is an information website with quality internet resources, reviewed and selected by Illinois librarians, well-organized for easy access by all Illinois citizens.

Librarians' Index to the Internet
Librarians' Index to the Internet (LII) is a searchable, annotated subject directory of more than 14,000 Internet resources selected and evaluated by librarians for their usefulness to users of public libraries.

Lycos
A search engine with a directory, this site also offers chat, e-mail, horoscopes, maps, recipes, and links to other information sources.

Open Directory Project
"Human's do it better..." The Open Directory Project is the largest, most comprehensive human-edited directory of the Web. It is constructed and maintained by a vast, global community of volunteer editors.
