You can subscribe to webpages that display this

Many people subscribe to
the Library's news pages and The Blogger Book Club using blog-reading software, also known as
RSS readers, news readers, or aggregators. RSS code in some of the
Library's web pages allows readers or aggregators to display
the headlines and short summaries of the latest
additions to these pages. This is called an "RSS feed."
Users can "subscribe" to various feeds and quickly scan the
headlines and summaries. Then, if they so choose, they can
click on a link to read the entire article.
When any of the above web pages are updated, the new information
is automatically delivered to
subscribers' RSS readers.
RSS is convenient, spam-free, and a great way to
track not only our web pages but hundreds and thousands of
news sites, blogs, and much more.
You may already have a news reader! MyYahoo, MyMSN,
GoogleReader, or your sbcglobal homepage allow you to add
content from the web; they are all news readers!
This video "RSS in Plain English" by Common
Craft is a short, easy to understand explanation of RSS.
RSS in Plain English
~~~~~
You can subscribe to the following pages on the Library
website:
- Employment Opportunities
- The Blogger Book Club
- New Titles @ Roselle Public Library
- What's New @ Roselle Public Library
Here's how to subscribe to any or all of these pages using an RSS reader called
Bloglines. We at Roselle Public Library don't have any
connection to Bloglines other than we like it and use it. It's free, and it's
web-based, so you don't have to install
anything on your computer.
3. Select (click on) the "Add" link on the upper
left-hand side of Bloglines, under " My Feeds."
4. The right-hand side of Bloglines should say
"Subscribe." Below that, you should see a box that says "Blog
or Feed URL." Type or copy and paste
http://www.roselle.lib.il.us/ into the "Blog or Feed
URL" box, and click "Subscribe."
5. You may now see up to ten different feeds. Select and
subscribe to one of the feeds that begin with the URL
http://www.roselle.lib.il.us (Ignore
any feeds that begin with anything other than http://www.roselle.lib.il.us.)
6. Later on, take a little time learning how to read your
feeds (it's flat-out easy: just click on the names of the
feeds), how to create folders to organize your feeds, how to
unsubscribe to some of the feeds that Bloglines gave you
when you signed up, and and how to find and add new feeds.
Finding More Readers and Feeds
Bloglines is searchable. You can also find feeds in
Bloglines through its "Related Feeds" feature, or browse the
blogosphere with Technorati
or Feedster. Other good
blog-finding tools include
Blogging
About Incredible Blogs and, especially for librarians
and library groupies,
Blogbib.
We suggest starting with Bloglines because it is free,
Web-based, and full-featured. If you want to explore other
aggregators (RSS readers), try
Newzcrawler and
Amphetadesk.
Most aggregators are clients (software you install on your
computer); some, like Bloglines, are Web-based. Some are
fee-based, and some are free.
