June 6, 2013 - LOOKING FOR SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE GRANDKIDS THIS SUMMER? CHECK OUT ROSELLE PUBLIC LIBRARY’S “GRANDPARENTS GOT GAME” PROGRAMS!
This summer Roselle Public Library will again offer the ‘Grandparents Got Game!’ drop-in programs where grandparents or grand-friends can play and create with their grandchildren. ‘Grandparents Got Game!” is held on Wednesday afternoons (1:30-3:00 p.m.) from June 12 through August 7. Each session features tables of board games, craft activities and a snack. No registration is necessary for any session.

DIYW: Do It Your Way takes place on Mondays June 10 – July 22 from 10:00- 11:30 a.m. in Youth Services. June 6, 2013 - Youth Services Plunge and Play Reading Series
Come join us at Kemmerling Pool for Plunge and Play on Friday, June 28 from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Children ages 6-11 can hear funny stories while splashing around in the zero depth area of the pool. Kids will participate in “pool/swimming” games and make a thematic craft to take home. This is a cooperative program between the Roselle Park District and the Roselle Public Library. June 6, 2013 - ROSELLE PUBLIC LIBRARY OFFERS BABYSITTER TRAINING WORKSHOP
Learn how to be an A+ babysitter at the Roselle Public Library’s Babysitter Training Workshop held on Friday, June 21 and Saturday, June 22, 2013 from 10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. This 2-day course will cover all aspects of babysitting. Each participant needs to bring a doll or a stuffed animal to practice on as well as a sack lunch and beverage to each session. Students must be between the ages of 10 and 16. A non-refundable $5.00 fee is due at registration. Those interested can register at the library’s Circulation Desk. Class size is limited. Students in grades 6 – 12 can celebrate summer a with a tie-dye program at the Roselle Public Library on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. All tie-dying supplies will be donated by Roselle Library. Participants should bring an item to be tie-dyed such as a white t-shirt, or other white article of clothing (sweatshirt, socks, or tank tops). May 20, 2013 - Youth Services Summer Storytime Sessions
The summer session of Storytime Programs at the Roselle Public Library begins Tuesday, June 11 and continues through Thursday, July 18. The session theme is “Are We There Yet?”
Registration begins Tuesday, May 28.
Sessions are divided up by age group and children must be the required minimum age by the date the program session begins. Choose the one that is right for you and your child!

“Tots & Tykes”, Tuesdays 11:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (6-19 months) with parent participation.

“Toddler Tales”, Tuesdays 10:00 – 10:30 a.m. (20-35 months) with parent participation.

“Preschool Storytime”, Wednesdays 10:00-10:30 a.m. or 1:00-1:30 p.m. (ages 3-5 years).

Two drop-in storytime sessions are held during the week and are open for families with children of all ages. They are held on Tuesdays, 6:30-7:00 p.m. and Thursdays, 10:30-11:00 a.m. No registration is required for the drop-in sessions.

On Wednesday, May 22, 2013 from4:00 – 7:00 p.m. the Roselle Public Library and AlexianConnects will offer a vein screening at the library. This free screening evaluates vein disorders such as unsightly spider veins, varicose veins and venous insufficiency. Wear loose pants, skirt or shorts. Appointments are limited and required. The DuPage County Master Gardeners Help Desk returns to the Roselle Public Library this spring and summer to answer gardening questions. Gardening experts from the University of Illinois Extension Services will be on hand in the Library from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Mondays, May 13, June 17, July 15 and August 19, 2013. There is no registration required for the sessions.
Information on annual and perennial flowers, trees, lawn care and other horticulture issues will be available. The Master Gardeners are a group of volunteers trained by University of Illinois Extension educators to provide a network of gardening and horticulture programs to educate the public. All information provided is based on research from the University of Illinois.

The Roselle Public Library’s Musical Sunday concert on May 19, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. will feature musician Phil Passen performing selections from the Civil War era on the hammered dulcimer. Musical Sundays are held from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. in the atrium of the library on the first floor. The spring session of Storytime Programs at the Roselle Public Library begins Tuesday, March 26 and continues through Thursday, May 2. The session theme is “Sing ‘tis Spring”.
Registration begins Monday, March 11.
Sessions are divided up by age group and children must be the required minimum age by the date the program session begins. Choose the one that is right for you and your child!

“Tots & Tykes”, Tuesdays 11:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (6-19 months) with parent participation.

The winter session of Storytime Programs at the Roselle Public Library begins Tuesday, January 15 and continues through Thursday, February 21. The session theme is “Go Fish”.

The Roselle Public Library will offer a free ACT practice test on Saturday, January 5, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. for students in grades 6 – 12. The four-hour practice test will be administered by Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions. This practice test will familiarize participants with the English, Math, Reading and Science Reasoning parts of the ACT. Students should bring two pencils and a calculator.
The ACT Score Report & Test Strategies session will be offered at the library on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Every student receives a comprehensive analysis of their performance on the ACT test detailing individual strengths and weaknesses. Strategies to improve test scores will also be presented. Registration is free. When students register for the practice test, they should register for the January 12th score report session also. October 20, 2012 - Commuters Can Now Access Free Reads from Roselle Public Library at the Roselle Train Station
Commuters at the Roselle Train Station can now access thousands of free downloadable books quickly and easily, simply by scanning a QR code at the Friends of the Roselle Public Library book exchange kiosk.
The paperback book exchange at the Roselle Train Station, is stocked by the Friends of the Roselle Public Library. Now, in addition to paperbacks, commuters, travelers and visitors to the Train Station have the opportunity to download over 15,000 free books from Roselle Public Library with their smart phone, tablet or eBook reader.
The QR (quick response) code can be scanned or photographed from the sign located on the paperback exchange kiosk. The codes can be used by anyone with a smart phone, tablet or eBook reader with a scanner app such as QR Scanner or NeoReader. All you need to download free books is the scanner app and an eBook reader app on your device. It is not necessary to have a Roselle Public Library card to access the free books, and the book titles never expire.
In addition to the free books available to everyone, Roselle Public Library provides even more for Library members with a library card & PIN. Members can access downloadable eBooks and Audiobooks through eMediaLibrary, a collection of best-sellers and popular fiction & non-fiction developed by a consortium of west suburban libraries. eMediaLibrary’s collection includes titles for adults, children and teens. With Morningstar Investment Research Center, Roselle Public Library patrons have access to Morningstar's proprietary data, including detailed analyst opinions on 1,700 stocks, 2,200 mutual funds, and 400 exchange traded funds.

The Roselle Public Library will host its annual Model Railroad Showcase on Saturday, November 3, 2012 from 9:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and Sunday, November 4, 2012 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. Model railroading enthusiasts display collections, running layouts and railroad memorabilia for this popular family event. The Showcase features extensive running layouts operated by the Midwest Division of Train Collectors Association, and the Northwest Trainmasters, exhibits and collections from the Illinois Railway Museum, the Milwaukee Road Historical Society, and the Chicago & Northwestern Historical Society as well as layouts from local hobbyists. In conjunction with the October “On The Same Page” community reading event that celebrates Homer Hickam’s memoir, Rocket Boys, this Musical Sunday will feature selections of bluegrass Appalachia music from the 1950s - 1960s.

The Roselle Public Library will again host the DuPage County Master Gardeners Help Desk this summer to answer gardening questions. Gardening experts from the University of Illinois Extension Services will be on hand in the Library from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Monday, August 20, 2012. There is no registration required for the sessions.
Information on annual and perennial flowers, trees, lawn care and other horticulture issues will be available. The Master Gardeners are a group of volunteers trained by University of Illinois Extension educators to provide a network of gardening and horticulture programs to educate the public. All information provided is based on research from the University of Illinois.

This summer Roselle Public Library will again offer the ‘Grandparents Got Game!’ drop-in programs where grandparents or grand-friends can play and create with their grandchildren. ‘Grandparents Got Game!” is held on Wednesday afternoons (1:30-3:00 p.m.) all summer from June 13 through August 15. Each session features tables of board games, activities and a snack.
Grandparents and grandkids will make a little noise at the ‘Buzz, Buzz Bees’ session on August 1 and we will celebrate birthdays at the August 8 ‘Birthday Bash!’ The program series ends with ‘Craft Extravaganza’ on August 15. The six week summer session of Storytime Programs at the Roselle Public Library begins Tuesday, June 12 and continues through Thursday, July 19. Summer’s theme is “Food Glorious Food.” Registration begins Tuesday, May 29.
Sessions are divided up by age group and children must be the required minimum age by the date the program session begins. The Roselle Public Library will again host the DuPage County Master Gardeners Help Desk this spring and summer to answer gardening questions. Gardening experts from the University of Illinois Extension Services will be on hand in the Library from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Mondays, May 21, June 18, July 23 and August 20, 2012. There is no registration required for the sessions.
Information on annual and perennial flowers, trees, lawn care and other horticulture issues will be available. The Master Gardeners are a group of volunteers trained by University of Illinois Extension educators to provide a network of gardening and horticulture programs to educate the public. On Tuesday, June 19, 2012 from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. the Roselle Public Library and AlexianConnects will offer an osteoporosis screening at the library. Osteoporosis develops over time, and often the diagnosis occurs only after a bone fracture. Early detection is crucial. Women over 35 are invited for a free bone density ultrasound screening to determine the health and strength of their bones. Registration is required for this program. This summer Roselle Public Library will again offer the ‘Grandparents Got Game!’ drop-in programs where grandparents or grand-friends can play and create with their grandchildren. ‘Grandparents Got Game!” is held on Wednesday afternoons (1:30-3:00 p.m.) all summer from June 13 through August 15. Each session features tables of board games, activities and a snack.

The Roselle Public Library offers computer classes each month from September through November and January through May. The library offers classes on internet basics, e-mail, and Microsoft Word. The Internet 101 class will be offered on Monday, May 21, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. The Microsoft Word class takes place on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. The Email class will be offered on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. Those interested in attending a class should register in person at the library or by phone, (630) 529-1641. All classes are 1 ½ hours long. Class size is limited to ensure plenty of one-on-one time with questions and answer periods, and hands-on experience. The Roselle Public Library will again host the DuPage County Master Gardeners Help Desk this spring and summer to answer gardening questions. Gardening experts from the University of Illinois Extension Services will be on hand in the Library from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Mondays, April 16, May 21, June 18, July 23 and August 20, 2012. There is no registration required for the sessions.
Information on annual and perennial flowers, trees, lawn care and other horticulture issues will be available. The Master Gardeners are a group of volunteers trained by University of Illinois Extension educators to provide a network of gardening and horticulture programs to educate the public. The Roselle Public Library offers computer classes each month from September through November and January through May. The library offers classes on internet basics, e-mail, and Microsoft Word. The E-mail class will be offered on Monday, March 26, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. The Internet 101 class takes place on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. The Microsoft Word class will be offered on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. Those interested in attending a class should register in person at the library or by phone, (630) 529-1641. All classes are 1 ½ hours long. Class size is limited to ensure plenty of one-on-one time with questions and answer periods, and hands-on experience. The Roselle Public Library will offer the class, “Saturday Skills: Mousing,” on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. This drop – in tutorial is aimed at the beginning computer mouse user or to help individuals brush up on their skills. It is recommended to take this tutorial prior to attending any of the other computer classes if a refresher in using the mouse is needed. The Roselle Public Library’s Musical Sunday program on Sunday, March 11, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. will feature musician Andy Young with a selection of gypsy jazz and Irish traditional music performed on hammered dulcimer and Irish flute. Musical Sundays are held from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. in the atrium of the library on the first floor.
