May 20, 2016 - MARCH WITH THE ROSELLE PUBLIC LIBRARY IN 2016 ROSE PARADE
The Roselle Public Library’s staff and supporters will be marching in the June 5, 2016 Rose Parade.  The Library’s float features the summer reading program theme, “Read for the Win!”  All library users are invited to join the library float and walk with us in the parade.  Those interested should call (630)529-1641 ext. *222 to register for the event.  Children 10 years old and younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.  The Roselle Public Library is located at 40 S. Park Street. 

May 20, 2016 - LOOKING FOR SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE GRANDKIDS THIS SUMMER? CHECK OUT ROSELLE PUBLIC LIBRARY’S “GRANDPARENTS GOT GAME” PROGRAMS!
This summer Roselle Public Library will offer the ‘Grandparents Got Game!’ drop-in programs where grandparents or grand-friends can play, create, and explore with their grandchildren.  “Grandparents Got Game!” is held Wednesday afternoons (1:30-3:00 p.m.) from June 15 through August 10.  Each session features board games, crafts, snacks and fun activities. May 20, 2016 - MASTER GARDENERS ANSWER YOUR GARDENING QUESTIONS AT ROSELLE PUBLIC LIBRARY
The DuPage County Master Gardeners Help Desk returns to the Roselle Public Library this spring and summer to answer gardening questions. Gardening experts from the University of Illinois Extension Services will be on hand in the Library from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Mondays, June 27, July 25 and August 22, 2016. There is no registration required for the sessions.
Information on annual and perennial flowers, trees, lawn care and other horticulture issues will be available.  The Master Gardeners are a group of volunteers trained by University of Illinois Extension educators to provide a network of gardening and horticulture programs to educate the public.  All information provided is based on research from the University of Illinois.

The rugged coast of Maine boasts 400 years of history amidst its quaint fishing villages and picture perfect lighthouses.  On Tuesday, June 28, at 7:00 p.m. Roselle Public Library features world traveler Ralph Danielsen for a tour of “The Coast of Maine.”  We'll boat around the islands, check out some down east art, walk in the footsteps of great American poets, see vacation homes of presidents, and explore the many picturesque harbors this state has to offer. The Roselle Public Library offers a monthly book discussion group for people in their 20s and 30s.  The next meeting takes place Thursday, June 30, 2016 from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. outside the library at a local restaurant.   For June the group will discuss the book  Into the Beautiful North by Luis Alberto Urrea.  Copies of the book are available at the Reference Desk one month prior to the discussion.

May 20, 2016 - Youth Services Summer Reading 2016- “Read For the Win!”
Slide on in to the Roselle Library, then kickflip your way to register for “READ-for the Win”, while you dribble your way to read or listen to books, so that you can “reach for the goal” when you “READ-for the Win.” Children, birth through entering 6th grade, are invited to be a part of the Roselle Public Library Youth Services’ Summer Reading Program 2016 from June 6 through July 31.  To participate, register for “Read For the Win!” and read or listen to books.  Bonus prizes for those who read past the 12 hour goal!  Students who attend school in Roselle Library District and younger siblings are eligible to participate. NO library card required!

Coloring contest for all ages this summer at the Roselle Public Library!  Starting on June 6th! May 20, 2016 - Youth Services Summer Storytime Sessions

Summer Session of Storytimes at the Roselle Public Library begins Tuesday, June 14 and continues through Thursday, July 21.  The session theme is “As the BALL Bounces!” Registration begins Tuesday, May 31st.
Sessions are divided up by age group and children must be the required minimum age by the date the program session begins.  Choose the one that is right for you and your child! 

  • “Tots & Tykes”, Tuesdays 11:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (6-19 months) with parent participation. 

  • “Toddler Tales”, Tuesdays 10:00 – 10:30 a.m. (20-35 months) with parent participation. 

  • “Preschool Storytime”, Wednesdays 10:00-10:30 a.m. & Tuesdays 1:00-1:30pm (ages 3-5 years). 

  • Two drop-in Storytime sessions are held during the week and are open for families with children of all ages.  They are held on Tuesdays, 6:30-7:00 p.m. and Thursdays, 10:30-11:00 a.m.  No registration is required for the drop-in sessions.

May 6, 2016 - ROSELLE PUBLIC LIBRARY HOSTS TIE-DYE EVENT FOR TEENS
Students in grades 6 – 12 can celebrate summer with the Fit to be Tie-Dyed!  program at the Roselle Public Library on Monday, June 13, 2016.  There will be a program session from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and another session from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.  Please register for only one session.  All tie-dying supplies will be provided by Roselle Library.  Participants should bring an item to be tie-dyed such as a white t-shirt (100% cotton), or other white article of clothing (sweatshirt, socks, or tank tops). Limit two items per teen. April 20, 2016 - CELEBRATE THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK AND OLD-TIME RADIO AT ROSELLE PUBLIC LIBRARY
Roselle Public Library will host radio personality and author Steve Darnall on Sunday, May 22, 2016 at 1:30 pm.  Mr. Darnell will discuss how radio helped give birth to the "Great American Songbook" by presenting songs and singers to a national audience. The Roselle Library’s Musical Sunday performance on Sunday, May 15, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. will feature The History Singers.   This folk duo, consisting of Kathryn and John Atwood, will perform their "Chicago History in Song" program. The Roselle Public Library’s men’s book discussion group meets on Monday, May 16, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. in the library’s conference room.  The May selection will be True Grit by Charles Portis.  The group will discuss the book as well as the two recent True Grit movies; both The Coen Brothers (2010) and Henry Hathaway’s movie (1969).  Copies of the book and the DVDs are available at the Reference Desk one month prior to the discussion.

March 20, 2016 - THE ROSELLE PUBLIC LIBRARY AND THE ROSELLE PARK DISTRICT GARDEN CLUB SPONSOR GARDEN DAY AT THE LIBRARY FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS
The Roselle Public Library and the Roselle Park District Garden Club present “Garden Day at the Library,” an all-day celebration of gardening on Saturday, April 23, 11:00 am - 3:00 pm.
Visit the Master Gardener Help Desk from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm.  DuPage County Master Gardeners will answer questions about annual and perennial flowers, trees, lawn care and other horticultural issues. No registration required.

  • At 1:00 p.m. adults and teens discover a magical world in “Learn About Fairy Gardens,” with Jan Hanson, Certified Master Gardener from The University of Illinois Extension Services. Learn about the folklore of this age old form of gardening, as well as ideas in design, construction, plant material choices and accessories.  Registration required.

  • Create a Fairy craft for adults and students in grades 6 - 12 takes place at 2:00 p.m. Class size is limited. 

  • Children 5 & up with parent or caregiver will “Create a Fairy or Lego™ Garden” from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m.  Children can bring their own mini figure or fairy to decorate their garden. Other supplies will be provided.

The Roselle Public Library will partner with the Federal Reserve of Chicago for Money Smart Week 2016, running from April 23 - 30.  Money Smart Week is a national public awareness campaign designed to promote personal financial education.   On Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. the Roselle Public Library and the Itasca Bank & Trust will present the program, “Retirement Planning 101.”  Join Joseph R. The annual Great Magazine Giveaway returns to the Roselle Public Library from March 31 – April 3, 2016.  During these four days older magazines no longer needed in the Library’s collection are returned to the community.  For every item that a patron checks out of the Library they may take home 2 magazines.  These magazines are not returnable; please share them with neighbors, friends and relatives. Our Annual Rose Queen Tea will take place on Saturday, January 9th from 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. and will feature reigning Rose Queen, Rachel Gubka.  Youth grades K-6 will meet and spend the afternoon getting to know Rachel.  The children will create their own tiaras and dine on delicate desserts.  Registration began on Monday, December 28th.  Spaces are still available!

December 14, 2015 - TRANSFER YOUR OLD HOME MOVIES TO DVD AT ROSELLE PUBLIC LIBRARY
Patrons of the Roselle Public Library District can convert their collection of home videotapes to DVD for free, preserving their precious memories for themselves and making it easy to share those memories with their children and grandchildren.

Staff will help patrons get started and walk them through the process of using the Library's in-house equipment so they can transfer their home videos to DVDs by themselves. Discs are available to purchase.

“As I think back on holidays past, and all the wonderful memories of family celebrations, I am so pleased the Library is able to provide the community with the ability to convert their home videos to DVDs through the VHS to DVD Transfer Station,” said Executive Director Amy Cawley.

“I am hopeful this new service will be well used by our Library District residents, and that it will encourage many family stories to be shared with younger generations.”

The second fall session of Storytime Programs at the Roselle Public Library begins Tuesday, November 3 and continues through Thursday, December 10.  The session theme is “Helping Hands.”
Sessions are divided up by age group and children must be the required minimum age by the date the program session begins.  Choose the one that is right for you and your child! Registration begins Monday, October 20.

·    “Tots & Tykes”, Tuesdays 11:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (6-19 months) with parent participation. 

·    “Toddler Tales”, Tuesdays 10:00 – 10:30 a.m. (20-35 months) with parent participation. 

·    “Preschool Storytime”, Wednesdays 10:00-10:30 a.m. or Tuesdays 1:00-1:30 p.m. (ages 3-5 years). 

  • Two drop-in Storytime sessions are held during the week and are open for families with children of all ages.  They are held on Tuesdays, 6:30-7:00 p.m. and Thursdays, 10:30-11:00 a.m.  No registration is required for the drop-in sessions.

Trains, trains and more model trains will be features at the Roselle Public Library’s annual Model Railroad Showcase on Saturday, November 7, 2015 from 9:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and Sunday, November 8, 2015 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.  Model railroading enthusiasts display collections, running layouts and railroad memorabilia for this popular family event.  The Showcase features extensive running layouts operated by the Midwest Division of Train Collectors Association, the Northwest Trainmasters, and The British Train Society, exhibits from the Illinois Railway Museum, the Milwaukee Road Historical Society, and the Chicago & Northwestern Historical Society as well as layouts from local hobbyists. Two of Roselle Public Library’s book discussion groups will resume meeting in September.  The Adult Book Discussion group meets on the third Tuesday of each month beginning on September 15 at 7:00 p.m. in the library meeting room when the group will discuss House of Sand and Fog by Andre DuBus III. The Men’s Book Discussion group meets on the third Monday of each month beginning on September 21, at 7:00 p.m. The September book for the Men’s Book Discussion will be The Martian by Andy Weir.

The Roselle Public Library’s Musical Sunday season begins on September 20, 2015, at 1:30 p.m. with a program featuring folk musician Steve Justman. Steve will perform his program, The Music and Influence of Hank Williams – a tribute in guitar and song to the father of modern country music.

August 20, 2014 - ROSELLE PUBLIC LIBRARY HOSTS FIRST DIVISION MUSEUM DIRECTOR FOR VIETNAM WAR SEMINAR

In honor of the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War, the Roselle Public Library will host Paul Herbert, Executive Director of the First Division Museum at Cantigny on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at 7:00 pm.  Mr. Herbert will provide an overview of the US Army’s 1st Infantry Division’s role in the Vietnam War.  The 1st Infantry Division was one of the first two divisions sent to Vietnam in 1965, fighting both Viet Cong guerrillas and North Vietnamese Army regulars while also performing pacification operations.  Dr. Herbert will also provide insights into the lives of US soldiers serving there.  Register for this free program online at www.roselle.lib.il.us , by phone at (630) 529-164, or in person at the library.  This event is part of the Roselle Public Library's year-long celebration of 75 years of library service to the community. The Roselle Public Library’s yearlong celebration of 75 years of library service to the Roselle community continues with a “Diamond Jubilee Book Discussion” on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at 1:30 p.m.  The book to be discussed is the 1971 prize-winning novel, Angle of Repose by Wallace Stegner.  Copies of the book will be available at the Reference Desk a month prior to the discussion.  The Roselle Public Library is located at 40 S. July 20, 2015 - MASTER GARDENERS ANSWER YOUR GARDENING QUESTIONS AT ROSELLE PUBLIC LIBRARY
The DuPage County Master Gardeners Help Desk returns to the Roselle Public Library this spring and summer to answer gardening questions. Gardening experts from the University of Illinois Extension Services will be on hand in the Library from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Monday, August 17, 2015. There is no registration required for the session.

Information on annual and perennial flowers, trees, lawn care and other horticulture issues will be available.  The Master Gardeners are a group of volunteers trained by University of Illinois Extension educators to provide a network of gardening and horticulture programs to educate the public.  All information provided is based on research from the University of Illinois.

June 20, 2015 - Youth Services Summer Storytime Sessions
The second summer session of Storytime Programs at the Roselle Public Library begins Tuesday, July 7 and continues through Thursday, July 23.  The session theme is “Music Makes Me Dance!” Registration began on Tuesday, May 27.
Sessions are divided up by age group and children must be the required minimum age by the date the program session begins.  Choose the one that is right for you and your child! 

- “Tots & Tykes”, Tuesdays 11:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (6-19 months) with parent participation.

- “Toddler Tales”, Tuesdays 10:00 – 10:30 a.m. (20-35 months) with parent participation. 

- “Preschool Storytime”, Wednesdays 10:00 -10:30 a.m. (ages 3-5 years). 

Two drop-in Storytime sessions are held during the week and are open for families with children of all ages.  They are held on Tuesdays, 6:30-7:00 p.m. and Thursdays, 10:30-11:00 a.m.  No registration is required for the drop-in sessions.

May 6, 2015 - ROSELLE PUBLIC LIBRARY HOSTS TIE-DYE EVENT FOR TEENS 
Students in grades 6 – 12 can celebrate summer with a Tie-Dye! Program at the Roselle Public Library on Monday, June 15, 2015.  There will be a program session from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and another session from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m.  Please register for only one session.  All tie-dying supplies will be provided by Roselle Library.  Participants should bring an item to be tie-dyed such as a white t-shirt, or other white article of clothing (sweatshirt, socks, or tank tops).
